Patients must be risk assessed on admission
Prophylaxis must be prescribed unless contraindicated
LMWH needs to be administered AROUND THE UMBILICAL
AREA not in the upper arm otherwise just one injection can
cause painful bruising to the patient
Graduated compression stockings (TEDs) must be applied if
prescribed
Patients should be involved in their care and encouraged to
help prevent VTE development
Non-compliance should be documented and escalated
