What is a Major Incident?
 
Internal Major Incident / Business Continuity Event
 
Any occurrence that presents serious threat to the Trust, disruption to the service
or causes (or is likely to cause) such impact to patient care within the Trust to
require î special arrangements to be implemented.
Can only be declared by Director On Call (Gold Commander), normally upon
advice from NHS Commissioning Board or LAS or Police.
Significant Internal Event
 
Any occurrence where the impact is largely contained within one part of the Trust
or where the event is part of regular or predictable occurrence e.g. Winter
pressures, Surge Capacity. These are described within existing policies. LAS
procedures detail responses to these situations.
