Major Incident Plan Process
Move the mouse over each box to reveal further detail
Some times the events that start the
Major Incident are very obvious like
the London Transport Bombs
sometimes not obvious at all like the
first pandemic flu patient arriving from
an unknown outbreak
Major Incident Standby is issued
when an incident may result in
casualties being sent to one of the
Trust receiving hospitals but this is
still to be confirmed. The Trust will
start preparatory activities NOT
impacting upon patient care
This is the official point in time when
the Trust is stating it can return to
"normal" ways of working. Usually after
external agencies have informed the
Trust that the scenes of the incident
are cleared of casualties.
Trust officially hears about Major
Incidents through the London
Ambulance Service or NHS
Commissioning Board (London)
Only person who can declare a
Major Incident is the Executive
Director on Call (Gold)
This is the point in time when staff
are called in, areas are prepared to
receive casualties elective theatre
lists are cancelled, patients are
discharged to free bed space and
command teams are activated
