The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 
Both employers and employees have responsibilities towards health and
safety.
Under the H&S Act 1974, employers have a duty of care towards their
employees. This means that they have to ensure the safety and well-being
of all their staff and this also includes fire safety measures.
Fire Safety legislation: The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
places fire safety responsibilities on the 'responsible person'
 
THE RESPONSIBLE PERSON-
includes the Chief Executive Officer and Managers.
 
Continued vigilance is required from everyone to prevent fires starting and to
ensure that everybody knows what to do if a fire does break out.
