Means of Escape
All doors situated on escape routes must be regularly checked
to make sure that they can be opened easily and immediately in
the event of an emergency.
If a door has to be fastened shut while people are in the
building, it should only involve the use of a simple bolt or latch or
other type of fastening that can be readily opened by all staff
and others.. The operating instructions for the fastening device
should be displayed clearly on the door. Doors designed to
close automatically on the sound of the alarm must never be
obstructed by objects that would prevent them from fully closing.
