Other Resistant Organisms
ESBL = Extended Spectrum Beta-Lactamase producer. These are gram
negatives such as E-Coli, Klebsiella. Patients infected with these
organisms are treated with Carbapenem antibiotics.

CRE = an ESBL that is also resistant to Carbapenem antibiotics meaning
that infections are not treatable this is a very worrying organism

VRE = Vancomycin resistant Enterrococcus or Glycopeptide resistant
enterococcus

Acinetobacter can be an ESBL and or multi-resistant so can be a
significant pathogen in certain circumstances
