Saving Lives - Launched 2005

Reducing infection, delivering clean and safe care. Brought in by the
department of health to improve practice and care in a number of clinical
situations and to reduce infection. It adopts a care bundle approach with
a number of elements in a High Impact Intervention, for example in
peripheral cannula care and urinary catheters. The high impact
interventions use up to date evidence based guidelines that can be
audited using specific audit tools to measure compliance.

Compliance rates can be set alongside infection rates. As compliance
improves, infections should reduce. This can provide meaningful feed
back to clinical areas and is a measure of the quality of care our
patients receive. Compliance rates on their own are useful for clinical
staff to see how well their care is being delivered.
