3. Our current needleless hub is the Vygon bionector this must be changed every 7
day or after 150 activations which ever is sooner.
 
Never connect the bionector directly to the cannula. Attach an extension set with a
bionector attached to each port to remove the manipulation of attaching the syringe to the
cannula, away from the cannula
 
Never leave a port or cap open. Use a bionector on all ports of the CVC (Except Vac
Caths)
 
Always close the 'cannula' cap after decontamination of hands as soon as it is observed
never leave it for someone else to do.
 
Advise the patient to take responsibility to ensure it is closed. Show them how to
decontaminate their hands and close the cap.
 
Always use the least number of ports, down size from 3 way-taps to placing a bionector
directly onto the CVC port. Use single extensions with bionectors where available.
 
We do not routinely flush lines therefore remember if its in situ and not in use take it out
