4 Do not disconnect and reconnect the giving set. Change sets as

per IV policy. TPN at 24 hrs, Fluid sets at 72 hrs, Insulin set at 24

hrs etc Fluid bag every 24hrs Do not disconnect when patients go

to the wash room, putting on PJ's etc The IV set must be discarded

once it has been disconnected.

Different practice applies in the X-Ray department. For injection

under pressure the extension set must be removed and the syringe

extension set connected to the cannula.
