Daily hygiene is important with washing the meatus with
ordinary soap and water
If you can, give the patient ownership of their hygiene.
The reason the catheter bag must be below the bladder level
is to reduce back flow which can lead to greater chance of
infection
Empty the drainage bag using a separate and clean container
for each patient. Avoid contact between the tap and the
container.
Do not change catheters unnecessarily as part of routine
practice except where necessary to comply with
manufacturers guidance.
Do Not add antiseptic or antimicrobial solutions into the
drainage bag.
