Confidentiality Code of Practice
The Department of Health Confidentiality Code of Practice sets standards that staff must
follow to ensure patient information is kept confidential.
 
All patient information held by the Trust is bound by the Confidentiality Code of
Practice.
 
Staff must only share patient information with those who need to know i.e. are involved
with their direct care.
 
Staff who wish to use patient information for purposes other than the delivery of
patient care e.g. research, presentations, must obtain the consent of the patient in
advance.
 
The Trust's Caldicott Guardian is responsible for ensuring compliance with the code of
practice and the Caldicott principles
