• If the patient has an allergy identified, then attach a red name band. If
  • the patient has an intravenous cannula it is good practice to attach the
  • name band on the same side as the cannula.

  • Attach an allergy sticker to the patient's medication administration record
  • (prescription chart).
  •  
  • Update nursing documentation to reflect status.
  •  
  • Ensure allergy section on computer records is updated.
  •  
  • Hand over allergy status of the patient at shift changes.
  •  
  • Ask the patient each and every time you administer drugs do they have
  • any allergies.
