The aim of this national policy is to put patients at the centre of the
mealtime experience and provide an environment which is
conducive to eating
It is a set time, usually 45-60 minutes long, when all ward based
activities, both clinical eg . ward rounds and non clinical eg.
cleaning, are stopped or limited
It allows staff to have the time to recognise, prioritise and support
patients to eat and drink
It ensures that meal times are free from avoidable and unnecessary
interruptions and that the focus of the ward staff and any visitors is
to help patients to eat and drink
