Protected Meal Times
  • The aim of this national policy is to put patients at the centre of the
  • mealtime experience and provide an environment which is
  • conducive to eating
  •  
  • It is a set time, usually 45-60 minutes long, when all ward based
  • activities, both clinical eg . ward rounds and non clinical eg.
  • cleaning, are stopped or limited
  •  
  • It allows staff to have the time to recognise, prioritise and support
  • patients to eat and drink
  •  
  • It ensures that meal times are free from avoidable and unnecessary
  • interruptions and that the focus of the ward staff and any visitors is
  • to help patients to eat and drink
